T: Making T.O. a Permanent ATL Arts Space
Posted on September 28, 2011
An Update on Our Capital Campaign
This year -- and especially in recent weeks -- we are sure that as arts patrons, you have received appeals from some of our colleague theater companies for immediate funding in order to continue operations. It would be a catastrophe to our arts community to lose any one of these institutions and I am hopeful that we will all be able to adapt to the challenges of these demanding times and emerge stronger than ever.
It has been heartening to me that so many people have asked Theatrical Outfit Staff, Trustees and me if we are okay. So, I would like to provide a brief update to our patrons on the fiscal health of Theatrical Outfit.
I am happy to report on the successful progress we are making with the help of our Trustees, donors and Foundations in creating a sustainable fiscal model for T.O. On September 1, 2009, we began a 1.685 million dollar capital campaign with a challenge grant from the Woodruff Foundation to retire our mortgage, eliminate accrued bank debt and create a $500,000 cash reserve. Once the mortgage is paid in full, T.O. will give the deed of the Balzer Theater at Herren's to the Community Foundation so that the building is secure as a permanent community arts space for the city of Atlanta. As of today, we are now $1.25 million toward our $1.685 million goal and the remaining $435,000 must be raised by March 2012.
We believe that with your help we can continue to sustain our operations this year and keep bringing you the soul-stirring stories that have come to mean so much for you and for all of us in the heart of our city. Now more than ever we promise to continue to strengthen the vision that is Theatrical Outfit.
How can you help? You will receive our end-of-year donation request in the mail soon, and we ask you simply to please give. With your help, we can maintain the artistic and fiscal growth of Theatrical Outfit and achieve our best work yet to serve generations to come.
